When Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra joined hands and made Munnabhai it was a refreshing change from the usual scripts which made it a tremendous success. After two installments of Munnabhai series and when they were close to taking the third part in the sequel, hindrance came in the form of Sanjay Dutt who could not commit or rather was not allowed to travel to USA for the movie by the indian government as there were few cases pending against his name. The director-producer duo waited for sometime to keep the Munnabhai series alive and when they knew it was going nowhere they immediately changed track and Rajkumar Hirani chanced upon Chetan Bhagat’s book “Five Point Someone” and the ideas in the book slowly transpired him to make it into a movie and which he did it with a flashy name as “3 Idiots”.
