Action Replayy Movie Review | silentcritics.com
“Action Replayy” reminds us of Robert Zemckis directed movie “Back To The Future” as the main highlight of this film is the time travel undertaken by Bunty (Aditya Roy Kapoor) going back 35 years and saving his parents marriage. The movie does not disappoint on the whole though there are places where one would have thought director Vipul Shah should have been more crispy in narration. Read More
Mynaa Movie Review | silentcritics.com
At the outset the movie looks like any other village based love subject with not so good looking actors in the lead. The movie did come in for lot of praise from Kamal Hassan, Director Bala and Udayanithi Stalin. “Mynaa” is definitely different from the run of the mill films. Director Prabhu Solomon who earlier made films like “King” and “Lee” has dealt with a subject which does leave an impact on the audience. Read More

The American Movie Review | silentcritics.com
“The American” is distinctly different compared to other movies of George Clooney. The man is defined as a heroic fighter who is precise in his work and secondly the man has a constraint that he must not fall in love and if he does fall in love it proves fatal for his lady love. George Clooney has played the role which requires subtle emotions to be displayed and especially in the opening scene when he is forced toshoot his girl friend he has proven his class with aplomb. Pawan Kalyan has given something to cheer about to his fans as this movie gives an opportunity for his fans to see him on screen after a gap of more than two years. In “Komaram Puli” he plays the title role in the character of a strict police officer. Boss Engira Baskaran Movie Review | silentcritics.com
Director M Rajesh after his successful debut in “Siva Manasula Sakthi (SMS)” has once again come up with a comic caper in “Boss Engira Baskaran” (Written as Boss (A) Baskaran). This movie has Arya in the lead and to give him company is Nayanthara. Santhanam who comes as Jeeva’s friend in “SMS” once again plays the same role here playing the friend of Arya. In terms of story there is nothing new compared to the director’s previous film. However, in terms of treatment given to the similar storyline there is definitely a slight difference which makes this film a watchable fare. Read More

Lafangey Parindey Movie Review | silentcritics.com
The movie is all about two individuals toiling hard in the basti of Mumbai wanting to make it big in their respective lives. Ill-fated luck would have it that one loses her eyesight while the other helps the blind person to achieve her dream in life. The storyline is simple, tried out time and again in various Bollywood flicks and out of which few attempts were successful while others sank without a trace. Read More
Naan Mahaan Alla Movie Review | silentcritics.com
Karthi Sivakumar riding high after his super-hit “Paiya” has joined hands with director Suseendran of “Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu” fame in this “Naan Mahaan Alla”. A movie with the same title was released way back in 1984 and had Rajnikanth in the lead. However, this present day film has no connection whatsoever with the 1984 film and both films are different and belong to different genres. Vamsam Movie Review | silentcritics.com
Director Pandiaraj was brilliant in his debut film “Pasanga” which was really a refreshing change from the run-of-the-mill urban / rural love stories. Kollywood did take notice of the talented director and the movie was undoubtedly a super-hit. The next film from the same director did raise the expectations on how different is it going to be this time around considering the fact it also marked the debut of M K Arulnithi (who is the grandson of M Karunanidhi). The movie titled “Vamsam” is produced by Arulnithi’s father Thamilarasu who had produced “Gopura Vasalile” almost two decades ago. Read More

Mankatha Trailer on 20th August 2010 | silentcritics.com
Ajithkumar who shed the “Ultimate Star” tag in the 49th film of his career titled “Asal” ended up being a miserable flop to say the least. Disappointed with the result, Ajith wanted to make his landmark 50th film truly memorable. Ajith joined hands with Gautham Vasudev Menon along with producer Dayanithi Alagiri and when the movie was in its scripting stage the actor decided to try his hands on Formula one racing circuit which delayed the project a bit and that did not go well with the director who backed out of the project. Aisha Movie Review | silentcritics.com
Sonam Kappor’s dad Anil Kapoor’s home production “Aisha” is more intent on making a style statement on the actress than making an impact on the satisfaction level of the viewers. The entire movie is concentrated on the different hair styles that Sonam Kapoor sports and the rich collection of stylish dresses that hits the viewers scene after scene. It is without doubt that Sonam Kapoor looks gorgeous in the movie but the main ingredient that a film needs in terms of a strong storyline supported by an able screenplay is missing badly throughout the film. The Ghost Writer Movie Review | silentcritics.com
Roman Polanski who had his directorial debut in the year 1955 with the film “Rower” has come up with a stunner titled “The Ghost Writer” which is based on a book written by Robert Harris titled “The Ghost”. The 77 year old director has not let the fire in his belly die down a bit and he has come up with a classical political suspense drama that enthralls the audience. This film could be rated amongst his best alongside landmark films of his like “Rosemary’s Baby (1968)”, “China Town (1974)”, “Tess (1979)” and many more. The treatment meted out by the director to the storyline that is wafer thin and in danger of being highly predictable is truly remarkable. The casting for the film is perfect and one couldn’t have asked for better actors to portray the lead roles with conviction. Read More

Inception Movie Review | silentcritics.com
Christopher Nolan has once again proven that he is indeed a genius with his latest creation “Inception”. As history would have it Nolan first thought about Inception 8 years back and when he began scripting the film at that time he wanted to make it as a horror flick. Madharasapattinam Movie Review | silentcritics.com
Kollywood has at last got a whiff of fresh air moving away from the usual run-of-the-mill romantic subjects to something more sensitive and serious subject wherein the independence struggle and a love story of a British girl and an ordinary low class Indian boy is woven beautifully for the viewers. Director Vijay who after a successful outing with his last film “Poi Solla Porom” (re-make of the Hindi hit film “Khosla ka Ghosla”) has come up with a story which is absorbing from start to finish. The movie moves at such a good pace that the entertainment quotient of the film is never compromised though the story travels to and fro between current era and pre-independence era. Read More

A movie which was in the making for close to two years and thanks to the enormous pre-release publicity which has made this film one amongst the most awaited movies of the year. Directed by Mani Ratnam and with his favorite actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead this “Raavan” was supposedly to be a treat to the viewers. Raajneeti Movie Review | silentcritics.com
“Raajneeti” produced and directed by Prakash Jha comes with a tagline “Politics… And Beyond..” is no doubt an entertaining political story. The movie picks up pace from the beginning and the tempo keeps building for most part of the movie. The baseline is that the film brings out the darker side of human beings in their quest for power. Prakash Jha has roped in big names of Bollywood for this project and in the end has won lot of accolades for a realistic portrayal of the dirty politics that is prevalent in the country. The movie during the making was compared to real life politics and especially Katrina Kaif was said to be playing a role inspired by the life of Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Read More

Singam Movie Review | silentcritics.com
A movie that created a lot of hype has lived truly up to its expectations. The movie is a cop story but the silver line in this film is the treatment given to an ordinary storyline and full credit to director Hari for the same. The pace of the movie is on full throttle right from the introduction fight of Surya till the end credits roll-over. Both Hari and Surya were under tremendous pressure to deliver a racy entertainer as their previous cop movies in “Saamy” and “Kaakha Kaakha” were absolute entertainers. Incidentally Singam (Lion) is Surya’s 25th film and to be honest he has selected an apt story under a talented director for his landmark film. Read More

Apartment (Hindi) Movie Review | silentcritics.com
The tagline of the movie spills the beans much before one gets to watch it fully. With a tagline that reads “Rent At Your Own Risk” effectively pulls down the suspense element of the story pretty prematurely. Jagmohan Mundhra who wanted to make an original thriller has finally not got more than a re-make of the hit flick “Single White Female”. The characterization is weak, the plot is even weak and the final outcome is just ordinary. When Tanushree Dutta and Neetu Chandra play pivotal roles in the film its a foregone conclusion that the former would be in the thick of things for her acting while the latter would be in for some skin show. The most awaited film of the year has finally hit the screens and with it the expectations that were sky-rocketing post an impressive trailer has been put to test. In the end if the movie is worth the watch or does it belong to the league of films that don’t live-up to the pre-release hype??? Well, the answer is the film doesn’t sustain the momentum to meet the pre-release hype. Producers spend a lot of money to churn out extravaganza which leaves the audience spellbound. Karthik Calling Karthik Movie Review | silentcritics.com
The best thing about Karthik Calling Karthik is the freshness it brings to the table. The movie is such an imagination that no one would have ever thought that such a movie could be made amongst the masala pot-boilers. The promos did promise a lot but the box-office results weren’t on the expected lines. There are two reasons that can be cited for the failure of this movie. First, the second half is not as good as the first half complimented by an uncharacteristic ending. Secondly, the subject taken as the base ingredient for the movie could not be understood by many. “Sura” is a landmark film for Vijay, considering it was the 50th film of his career. Not many actors would have the honor of completing a golden jubilee as the lead actor in as many films. Two legends of tamil cinema, a producer who does not have any constraints in terms of creativity and a director who is new to the field. When these people join together to make a film one could expect something refreshing and entertaining. In the end all one gets is nothing but a direct attempt to copy the hit film “Pasanga” which has gone all wrong. Director Linguswamy had mentioned in an interview to a daily that his movie “Paiya” is a never seen before film in Tamil Cinema. His words are hard to interpret in the above context as to what does he actually mean by the term “never seen before”. Angadi Theru Movie Review | silentcritics.com
Looks like a trend is setting with Tamil film directors wherein most part of their movie runs in flashback mode. Most of the recent releases have either the first half in flash back mode or a little more than that extending till the climax. Ayangran International’s latest film Angadi Theru (Market Street) also follows the trend and almost the entire movie runs on flashback. With a debutant hero the movie happens to be a high-risk proposition for the producers and when the screenplay is long and dragging the fate of this product in the box-office is a foregone conclusion. Love stories are generally meant to be light hearted with dose of sentiment and loads of entertainment. Yathumagi which had a tag line “Love Story 2010” was supposed to fall into the above mentioned category but unfortunately it falls short on many counts. With a debutant in hero Sachin and two film old actress Sunaina as the heroine the movie had some expectations but within minutes into the movie one definitely gets the feeling that the movie is going to be a dud. The story of the movie is nothing new nor the screenplay which is dull and boring throughout. The Princess and The Frog Movie Review | silentcritics.com
Walt Disney’s “The Princess and The Frog” is a revelation when compared to other features from the animation major. The main factor that distinguishes this film to others is that for the first time Walt Disney has used a black heroine in the main cast. The character of Tiana is also constructed in such a manner that she is an epitome of hope in a world where she is weighed down by her dream to own a restaurant for herself and works hard to make it a reality. The dream is so heavy considering her not so rosy childhood where her dad was her inspiration and all they led was an ordinary life where all they could manage is only a mediocre meal to satisfy them and people in their locality. Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai Movie Review | silentcritics.com
When you go to a restaurant and have a sumptuous meal and in the end you decide to have a dessert to make it complete the desert turns out to be a spoiler and as a result all that you bring back is the bad taste of the desert which was a spoiler to the entire meal. Vishal’s latest flick “Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai” unfortunately falls into the above said category. The movie which holds the attention of the audience for most part finds itself losing the plot in the last 45 mins when Vishal decides to show that he is over smart. Debutant director Thiru who has been so good in conceptualizing a Casanova type movie which is a refreshing change in Tamil cinema compared to the recent flicks kollywood had offered has failed to give it a proper finish. The movie would have been better with an unconventional ending but thanks to the general hero image our stars have got themselves soaked into the movie turns out to be an average flick. Read More

The Wolfman (2010) Movie Review | silentcritics.com
When Universal Studios decided to re-make their 1941 classic with the same name it ran into more troubles than one. The film was first supposed to be directed by Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) then it passed on to Brett Ratner (Rush Hour) and a few more hands before landing up with Joe Johnston (Jumanji, Jurassic Park III). Post filming there were issues with the outcome that few scenes were re-shot and followed by some FX troubles and finally the expectations of a classic being re-made was eventually missing. The final product after overcoming so many hurdles is not that impressive and the poor re-recording and shabby editing is there for everyone to witness. Read More
